According to multiple reports, the Pirates are promoting middle infielder Nick Gonzales to Pittsburgh.

The Post-Gazette’s Jason Mackey is among those reporting the news.

The Pirates 2020 first-round draft pick is the organization’s fifth top prospect, according to MLB.com

The Pirates recently called up their third top prospect, Henry Davis made his debut on Monday.

Gonzales is currently batting .257 in Triple-A Indianapolis over 57 games.

He has six home runs, 27 RBI and an OPS of .820 along with a stolen base and 75 strike outs in 218 at bats.

The 24-year-old was taken seventh overall in the draft.

His development time was hindered by injury. In 2021 he suffered a broken finger and dealt with a heel injury in 2022.

He was placed on the seven-day injured list this past April and was activated on May 5.

The move has not been made official, no word on who Gonzales will replace on the 40-man roster.
