According to reports, the Pirates are listening to other teams about a deal for closer David Bednar.

Audacy Sports Insider Jon Heyman says the Pirates are listening to offers, but it is going to take a lot to move the All-Star.

As Heyman points out, Bednar is under team control through 2027.

The Mars native also has a 1.15 ERA.

If the Pirates believe their window to compete starts to crack open in 2024, it would make sense to keep Bednar through that period.

Bednar was acquired by the Pirates in the three-team deal that sent Joe Musgrove to San Diego. The Pirates also got catcher End Rodriguez in that deal.

The 28-year-old went undrafted out of Mars Area High School.

The Pirates will need a king’s ransom for Bednar and they’ll need players that can make an impact sooner than later, if they don’t want fan backlash, which would likely come anyway.

Bednar is 3-1 this season with 19 saves.
