According to one MLB insider, there is interest in Pirates catcher Austin Hedges, .181 batting average and all.
Audacy Sports insider Jon Heyman said that the Pirate are getting hits for the defensive catcher.
Hedges is primarily known for his defensive skills and his pitch-framing is considered among the best in the MLB.
But with 29 hits in 160 at bats, one home run and 14 RBI, Hedges has become the focal point for many fans who were frustrated before catcher Endy Rodriguez was called up from Triple-A.
Rodriguez has taken over as the primary catcher. Drafted as a catcher, Henry Davis has yet to see any action behind the plate.
It’s believed the organization isn’t confident in Davis behind the dish yet.
Hedges is on a one-year deal with Pittsburgh, worth $5 million.
Along with Hedges, Heyman says the Pirates are getting calls on pitchers Rich Hills, David Bednar, Mitch Keller and Colin Holderman.
