PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – A problem for this team with over a dozen blown saves, the Pirates are looking for options to improve the bullpen. As first reported by John Dreker, the Pirates signed 6’2”, 180 pound right-hander Yunior Marte after he was designated for assignment by the Reds.

The 31-year-old pitched in one game with Cincinnati this year giving up four runs in a third of an inning with three hits and a walk. He’s pitched in 103 career MLB games with a 5.94 ERA and 1.63 WHIP. His fastball can reach 100 mph, but has struggled with his secondary pitches which allowed batters to sit on the four seamer.

In AAA this season, Marte is 2-0, 5.12 ERA, 1.81 WHIP, 19.1 innings, 12 walks, 26 strikeouts.

Reports Marte will report to the Pirates facilities in Bradenton to be examined and then sent to a minor league assignment.
