Two Pirates will now start in Tuesday evening's All-Star Game in Denver.
National League manager Dave Roberts announced Monday afternoon that Bryan Reynolds will start in the outfield, alongside Adam Frazier, who was voted in to start at second base.
Due to Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. suffering a season-ending injury over the weekend, Reynolds will play in center field and bat eight.
Adam Frazier will bat 9th,
It is the first time that two Pirates will start in an All-Star Game since Barry Bonds and Andy Van Slyke did it in 1992.
Frazier is batting .330 at the break with 115 hits with an OPS of .860.
Reynolds is batting .302 with 96 hits, 51 RBI and a .906 OPS.
Both Frazier and Reynolds consider the All-Star nod a dream come true.
Reynolds credits his success at the plate by just keeping it simple.
"I'm not in the box trying to hit a homer or anything, I'm trying to get ready early, see the ball and just touch it with my barrel and I feel like if I do that I have a good chance to hit it hard and drive it somewhere and sometimes those go over the wall," said Reynolds recently on the PM Team.
It's not a surprise that both Frazier and Reynolds are having their best seasons in the MLB so far.
Reynolds says that he and Frazier talk during the game frequently.
"We talk during the game about what we've been seeing from that pitcher," said Reynolds. "I feel like we do have similar approaches, we're not out there trying to . . . drop and drive and do all that kind of stuff, we both get ready, get our foot down early and try to throw the barrel at it."
