PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Typically a number of topics to discuss with Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. On Wednesday it was everything from contending to the trip home from Paris, Zach Frazier and having the ball at the end.
Contenders
“We're 5-2, so I think we are in position to contend but we’ve got to be playing the right way come November and December,” Rodgers said. “I think we've been improving on offense. Defense obviously had a really nice day in Paris, but we still haven't played all three phases in the same game yet and hopefully it'll happen this week.”
Flight fun
Mostly when you hear about a trip back from anywhere, let alone large men getting on a plane after a physical game for an eight-plus hour flight
“It was probably my favorite flight back from a road game in 22 years,” Rodgers said.
Asked if it topped the return trip from Dublin last year?
“This definitely topped Dublin. Definitely topped Dublin.”
How so?
“Well, it was a — the crew was amazing. They let us kind of take over the hallways, and there was a lot of the aisleways. There were a lot
of good times being had on that flight.”
Key vs. Browns
In the first game with the Browns, Rodgers threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns leading to 24 points. However, the Steelers were just 4-13 on third down and Rodgers was sacked five times.
“You’ve got to win your one-on-ones,” Rodgers said. “So, man coverage is one-on-one all over the field. You’ve got to win the one-on-ones and get open, and I’ve got to get them the ball.”
Game ball center
Rodgers said center Zach Frazier has played at a high level since he arrived in Pittsburgh. Frazier was awarded a game ball for his play against the Saints.
“A lot of trust,” Rodgers said. “He's super smart. Real even-keeled. Strong at the
point of attack. Good on the second level. Very good on passing off stunts. Even in the run game, as you saw this last week, he was phenomenal with the line games and we're going to have to be this week too because they bring a lot of stunts with their front.”
Love the 4th quarter
Asked what he likes about having opportunities in the fourth quarter during one-score games?
“I think it’s, when you're growing up, for me my favorite players all had the ball in their hands late in the game,” Rodgers said. “Quarterback, guard, Michael Jordan, pitchers, because you know that's the guy making the impact. And so, in the fourth quarter, you want the ball in your hands and have a chance to win the game.”
