Starkey believes Wilson will start against Jets
Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin says he'll decide closer to Sunday night's game against the Jets on who will start at quarterback, Justin Fields or Russell Wilson.
After over a month of Fields starting, it appears that Wilson will get his first start of the year, even with Pittsburgh posting a 4-2 record.
Tomin didn't discuss who would be getting first-time reps but according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Wilson will get them "putting him in line to make his season debut and start Sunday night against the Jets."
Reacting to Tomlin's news conference, Joe Starkey said that he believes Wilson will start and the move to not name a starter is to try and give the Steelers an advantage against New York.
"What I heard there is that Russell Wilson is going to be the guy but that Tomlin is going to use his competitive advantage here or what he thinks is a competitive advantage against the Jets because its two very different guys to prepare for," said Starkey.
Wilson can move but not like Justin Fields can. And Fields can throw the ball, but not like Russell Wilson can.
Tomlin has gone from telling the media they were preparing as if Fields will start over the past month or so, to they will consider Wilson, everything is pointing to the Super Bowl champion Wilson starting.
And, if it indeed is Wilson that starts this week, don't expect him to hold the job down the rest of the way.
Tomlin said that whoever starts this Sunday won't automatically be QB1 going forward.
There is also a chance that Wilson starts and Fields comes in on a few plays as well.
