Heyward's pitch to Aaron Rodgers is either become a Steeler or don't

Joe Starkey says the Steeler name isn't what it used to be

Steelers defensive captain Cam Heyward has commented on the ongoing Aaron Rodgers saga.

Starkey on the lack of excitement around the Steelers name

The veteran defensive tackle said he is “tired of talking about the quarterback situation,” on his Not just Football podcast. “I’d rather have it done.”

Heyward sounded frustrated with whole situation involving Rodgers, who has reportedly let to decided between the Steelers, New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings or just retiring altogether.

Heyward was asked by his co-host Hayden Walsh if he would be willing to go on one of the unconventional retreats Rodgers has gone on, including sitting in darkness for days.

He isn’t having any of that.

“I ain’t doing that darkness retreat, I don’t need any of that crap,” said Heyward. “Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don’t, it’s that simple. That’s the pitch. Like, if you want me to recruit, that’s the recruiting pitch.”

Joe Starkey says the problem with what Heyward said is the Steelers name doesn’t hold the same weight it did a decade ago.

Selling Aaron Rodgers on just the Steelers name isn’t enough.

“People look at the Pittsburgh Steelers, like players and they might say to themselves . . . they haven’t come close to winning a playoff game in almost a whole decade,” said Starkey. “Their offense is archaic. Kirk Herbstreit said their defense quit in the middle of a playoff game. Other guys I know in the league like Marlon Humphrey say that there’s issues there.”
