The Steelers drafted Oregon defensive lineman Derrick Harmon Thursday night in the first round.
LISTEN: Starkey says Steelers got it wrong in Round 1
Joe Starkey started his show on Friday saying the Steelers made the wrong pick.
So, who should it have been?
Starkey says Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dark (who was available) should’ve been picked.
Instead, the New York Giants made a trade with Houston to make a second, first-round pick to select Dart.
“The Giants got, I think, ‘the guy’,” said Starkey,
“For me, the Steelers got it wrong,” added Starkey. “They bypassed a guy that could be their franchise quarterback.”
Speaking after the pick, Head Coach Mike Tomlin said the defensive line was in a state of “extreme urgency” and that was part of the reason Harmon was picked.
Starkey said that it was “incompetence” by the Steelers not developing the defensive line and because of bad picks like Isaiahh Loudermilk, they’re left with an urgent need.
Starkey adds that Harmon might end up being a “nice” player, but he was the wrong pick.
“There’s one story here and there’s one need year, a franchise quarterback and they don’t have one,” said Starkey.
