
PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – With Pat Freiermuth on injured reserve and Rodney Williams staying on the 53-man roster, the Steelers switched out their practice squad tight ends and added a linebacker on Tuesday.
TE Scotty Washington
6’5” former Wake Forest wide receiver is with his third NFL team. The 27-year-old signed by the Bengals in 2020 before he was waived in early September that season. He would sign with the Bengals practice squad the next year and a futures contract in February of 2022 before being released at the end of training camp. New England signed him, spending most of the 2022 season on their practice squad, he would play one game on December 23 and then put on injured reserve. Washington was with the Patriots all off-season until being released on August 27.
As a receiver with the Demon Deacons he caught 110 passes for 1,676 yards and 13 touchdowns. His senior season with Sam Hartman, Washington had 35 receptions for 607 yards (17.3 per catch) and seven TDs in only eight games, he missed the rest of the season with an ankle injury. His father, Tony Washington, played basketball at St. Francis University.
LB Caleb Johnson
Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Jets out of the University of Miami this season, the 6’ Johnson played at four different colleges. He enrolled at Texas playing three games as a freshman in 2019 and transferred to Fullerton College. He would go from there to UCLA where he led the Bruins in tackles in 2020, overall-89 tackles, 5.5 sacks, two interceptions in two seasons with UCLA before going to the Hurricanes. He forced a fumble against Pitt his only season in Miami with 48 tackles, 4 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Johnson was released by the Jets after training camp.
Steeler released offensive lineman Obinna Eze and tight end Noah Gindorff from the practice squad.
