PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers are added a safety on Tuesday and are keeping the door open before the trade deadline on November 4.

Four-year NFL safety Darrick Forrest joins the Steelers practice squad according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. He was most recently on the Colts practice squad before being released on September 13. He spent most of the offseason with the Bills after four years with the Commanders. In 40 games with Washington, 17 starts, Forrest had four interceptions, nine passes defensed, 137 tackles (84 solo), one tackle for loss.

His reputation is more of a run-stuffer than coverage DB. Forrest is 26-years-old and Washington’s fifth-round pick in 2021 out of Cincinnati.

Steelers also worked out 30-year-old, 5’11”, 205-pound Vonn Bell who has played 139 games in the NFL (Saints, Bengals, Panthers) and former Ravens, Bears and Chargers safety Eddie Jackson (6’, 205 pounds), who has 111 games of experience and is 31-years-old.

As for more additions via the trade front, Tomlin seemed optimistic.

“I think we're always open for business, particularly as we get close to the trade deadline,” Tomlin said. “We're always buyers, we're always trying to position ourselves to be the best that we can be this year. But that not only applies to the secondary that you asked about, I'm certain I'm sure that applies to all three phases of the game.”
