Steelers final roster cuts, LB lost for season

A list of the players released on cutdown day

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It’s cutdown day for the Steelers and the rest of the NFL Tuesday at 4p. There are different categories to the players the Steelers released, or put on injured lists getting down to 53 players.

The biggest name that was affected on Tuesday was linebacker Cole Holcomb who was designated out for the season on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List. He suffered what was believed at the time to be a devasting knee injury on November 2 and won’t this season.

A pair were put on the Reserve/Injured List-designated to return—offensive tackle Dylan Cook, who the team is really high on and outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon. Others just put on the short-term injury list-DB Ryan Watts and LB Julius Welschof.

They terminated (NFL language) the contracts of vested veterans-WR Quez Watkins and running backs La’Mical Perine and Jonathan Ward.

Here is the list of those released
WR-Dez Fitzpatrick, Duece Watts, Jaray Jenkins
TE-Rodney Williams. Matt Sokol
RB-Aaron Shampklin, fullback Jack Colletto
QB-John Rhys Plumlee
OL-Tykeem Doss, Joey Fisher
LB-Kyron Johnson, Luquay Washington, Jacoby Windmon
DB-Zyong Gilbert, Thomas Graham (had competed to be the nickel).

Some of these players may find themselves on practice squads with the Steelers or other teams, for example, Rodney Williams has been on the Steelers practice squad for a couple of seasons.
