PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Better news from the Steelers injury report on Thursday after nine were limited or missed on Wednesday.
Receiver Diontae Johnson (hip), tight end Zach Gentry (knee) and defensive lineman Montravius Adams (hip) returned to full practice. Gentry told us he would play on Sunday. Safety Terrell Edmunds (concussion) practiced full for a second-straight day.
Corner Levi Wallace (concussion) went from not practicing to limited and tight end Pat Freiermuth (concussion) is described as limited.
Starting center Mason Cole (foot) did not practice, neither did defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi (back).
Still not great with the other corners with Cameron Sutton (hamstring) and Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring) did not practice. Neither did safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee)
“The guys we have are the guys that are going to have to play,” said Steelers Defensive Coordinator Teryl Austin. “They’ve been working. The nice thing is we have guys that have played in NFL games before. It’s not inexperience, it’s not a guy that hasn’t played in a game.
They’ve gotten a little more comfortable.”
“JP (James Pierre) is the only one who’s been here for a while. The other guys have gotten a little more comfortable in our system. I like where we are going in terms of knowledge and what we are trying to get accomplished.”
Steelers hold their final practice for the Buccaneers on Friday morning.
