PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers released their week one depth chart on Monday with Dan Moore listed as the starting left tackle and a few other positions with 'ors' separating players.
Moore continues, as he has all offseason and training camp, as the starting left tackle. Connor Heyward listed as the starting fullback and third-string tight end. Nate Herbig is the back-up center with rookie Spencer Anderson the back-up left guard. Three rookies are listed in back-up roles on the offense (Broderick Jones at left tackle and Darnell Washington at tight end).
Three more rookies are listed as second-team players on defense. Keeanu Benton behind Montravius Adams at nose tackle, Nick Herbig at right outside linebacker (Alex Highsmith) and Joey Porter, Jr. at left corner (Patrick Peterson). Chandon Sullivan the starter at nickel with Elijah Riley the backup and Desmond King behind Levi Wallace and James Pierre at right corner. Keanu Neal or Damontae Kazee to start at strong safety. The linebackers are listed as Cole Holcomb and Elandon Roberts as starters with Kwon Alexander the 'or' at both positions.
Calvin Austin is the punt returner with Anthony McFarland the kick returner. Gunner Olszewski is the back-up at both spots.
New starters
Steelers have four new starters from last year's opening day on offense-guard Isaac Seumalo, fullback Connor Heyward, receiver Allen Robinson and Kenny Pickett. On defense-any combination of the middle linebackers-Holcomb, Roberts and Alexander. Peterson and Sullivan are new and Kazee was hurt at the start of last year while Neal was with Atlanta.
Larry health
When asked about his health when missing good parts of the preseason, veteran Larry Ogunjobi said he's excited and blessed to be in this position. He said he's taken training camp in stride and has done what he's needed to do to be ready.
"I think we got the right guys back," Ogunjobi said. "I think guys are understanding the roles and are very cohesive. The test is on Sunday and we are excited to rise to the challenge."
"We have a lot of young guys with high ceilings and we are excited for them. We are jelling really well and I'm excited to get going."
Healthy after missing time in his rookie year, DeMarvin Leal is listed as Ogunjobi's backup and should get a number of snaps across the line this year.
