PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – A dozen times over the last 22 months, the Steelers have signed, elevated or released receiver Brandon Johnson. Make it 13 as Johnson was released on Tuesday to make room for a second punter.
Steelers claimed punter Aidan Laros off waivers from Tampa Bay.
A rookie this year, Laros averaged 45.8 yards per punt in the last two seasons with the University of Kentucky, which is second in Wildcats history. The native of Capetown, South Africa attended UT Martin and Charlotte previously, also handled kickoffs at Kentucky (49 of his 60 were touchbacks). Against Auburn last season he won the Ray Guy weekly award averaging 44.8 yards per punt with all six efforts finishing inside the Tigers 20-yard line (3 inside the 10) in a 10-3 Kentucky win.
Laros played high school football in North Carolina where he was also an all-conference linebacker and his father played professional rugby.
Johnson played 19 offensive snaps for the Steelers in 2024, but no NFL regular-season snaps since then.
