Another scary concussion suffered by Tua Tagovailoa has sidelined the Miami Dolphins quarterback for at least four weeks.
Earlier this week, the organization put Tagovailoa on injured reserve. He’ll be out until at least October 27.
The Dolphins will go with Skylar Thompson to start against Seattle this weekend and signed Tyler Huntley off Baltimore’s practice squad.
But if the Dolphins want an established, veteran quarterback they need to look not further than Pittsburgh and Russell Wilson.
Wilson has yet to play a regular season game for the Steelers after a calf injury he suffered at the beginning of training camp. It was reaggravated before the Steelers’ first game.
Former NFL Head Coach Rex Ryan said on ESPN’s Get Up earlier this week that he thinks Wilson would be the top name if the Dolphins are looking to get a QB.
So, what should the Steelers ask for?
Ryan says it should be first-round pick or bust.
“Why would Pittsburgh trade him?” asked Ryan. “Unless it’s a first-round pick, they’re not going to trade him because they’re situation is good. Everybody knows you need two quarterbacks in this league.”
Former Steelers executive and Buffalo Bills General Manager Doug Whaley told The Fan Morning Show, on the Steelers side, it comes down to if they’re comfortable with Kyle Allen as their backup QB.
For the Dolphins, they need to know how close Wilson is to being healthy.
If he is close, Whaley says “absolutely” the Dolphins should look into Wilson.
It would also benefit Wilson. He would, most likely, be able to put up bigger numbers in Miami compared to Pittsburgh, setting himself for a nice contract next season.
Whaley also says he would ask for a first-round draft pick but would take a third or second-round draft because the Steelers would be dealing with “house money.”
