PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Can you imagine, a Mt. Lebanon High School graduate that enrolls in the Naval Academy and then drafted by the hometown Steelers. It happened early Saturday evening just outside of Acrisure Stadium as former Steeler Will Allen announced Eli Heidenreich’s name.
Heidenreich came off a spectacular senior season with the Midshipmen, at what they call the ‘snipe’ position. He led the team with 51 receptions with a school single-season record 941 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He rushed for 499 yards and three scores. In all he is 1,994 receiving yards with 16 receiving touchdowns.
His NFL Combine numbers were good too, the fourth best athleticism ranking among running backs running a 4.4 40-yard das, 35.5” vertical and 10’ broad jump.
Heidenreich was not only a star football player with the Blue Devils, but earned three letters in baseball as well.
