Joey Porter contract

  • It would be surprising if this contract gets done early. It doesn’t mean it won’t happen but corner Joey Porter, Junior is heading into the final year of his rookie deal. He said during team mini-camp he believes he’s been an elite corner since his first day in the NFL. He then discussed getting the respect he feels like he is owed.
  • The top 4 paid corners-Trent McDuffie ($31 million), Ahmad Gardner ($30.1 million), Derek Stingley, Jr. ($30 million), Jaycee Horner ($25 million)
  • The fifth highest paid corner in the NFL is already on the roster, Jalen Ramsey ($24.1 million)
  • Steelers gave OLB Nick Herbig $25 million a season and he’s currently not a starter. Can’t see any scenario where Porter takes same or less than Herbig.

4 quarterbacks

  • Aaron Rodgers is the starter, and said it is his last season, although that was the feeling at this time last year
  • So how does it work behind Rodgers? Could they actually keep all 4?
  • No matter how he looks, cutting third-round pick Drew Allar in his rookie season seems impossible
  • Is it a battle between Mason Rudolph and Will Howard? Rudolph is the experienced back-up contending teams crave. Steelers coaches have said more words praising Howard than would fit in a novel. Expect Howard’s first-ever performances in preseason games to be critical

New coach routine

  • Different for the fans for sure, how do players adapt to the new 11a practice times. They got a taste for the new drills during OTAs and mini-camp, interesting how the veterans respond to the unfamiliar. TJ Watt was very positive about the changes during offseason work, ultimately the results during the games will be the only thing that matters, but curious how this will all roll out.

Watt flipping?

  • Speaking of Watt, he said he was being stubborn in the past about switching from playing exclusively on the left side. If that is part of the game plan this year, the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year said he won’t fight it. How much of it will be see in Latrobe?

There are many more stories that will present themselves over the course of the camp and season, but four to watch as the Steelers report to training camp on Tuesday.
