PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Choo, choo. Remember when the Trubisky train was coming to town, now less than two years later, it’s pulling out of the station.

Anointed the starting quarterback for the start of the 2022 season, the Steelers and quarterback Mitch Trubisky have decided to mutually part ways according to the NFL Network.

It’s not a surprise as you knew there would be turnover in the quarterback room. The move also saves the Steelers nearly $3 million for 2024, although they will have to eat $4.6 million in dead cap according to ‘overthecap.com’ this season and $2.3 million in 2025. The savings in 2025 will be $6 million. Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network said the move was done now to give Trubisky nearly a month to explore is options in free agency.

While liked by his teammates, it never clicked for the Chicago 2017 first-round pick. Overall, he played in 12 games, starting seven with a 2-5 record. Trubisky would complete 64% of his passes for 1,884 yards, eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions. His quarterback rating was 77.6 as a Steeler.

With Trubisky gone, that leaves the Steelers with only one quarterback currently under contract, Kenny Pickett. Mason Rudolph is a free agent.
