PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Mike Tomlin said it was about how the question was phrased to Jaylen Warren when he said that the Steelers took Arizona lightly on Sunday.
Diontae Johnson was asked about it directly on Tuesday and said he thought they had the right approach during the week, but said he felt like there was something off on Sunday. Johnson said once they got out on the field on Sunday, he felt like something was different.
“I felt like we took them lightly than we should have,” Johnson said. “We can’t come in this Thursday with the same mindset. We are going to be fine, we’ve moved past it.”
Asked a follow up question about it, Johnson he is sure everyone will come in with the right mindset in the matchup against the two-win Patriots on Thursday. They are aware of what they did last week.
Mitch belief
He’s had a run-in with back-up Mitch Trubisky last year, but that’s water under the bridge for Diontae. There is a belief in Thursday’s starting quarterback. He said Trubisky knows the system, it’s not like with Trace McSorley that they brought someone in from the outside.
“We have full confidence in Mitch,” Johnson said. “Mitch has been in the league for some time. Whenever he comes in, he’s prepared and knows what he’s doing out there. He knows the game plan, that makes us want to play for him like he’s the starter.”
Red zone issues
“We just got to figure out ways to get the ball in the end zone,” Johnson said. “When we get down to the red zone, there are too many times we are giving up points. We still are trying to figure out what it is.”
“We just have to play harder. We’re not just out there fooling around, it’s not like we aren’t trying to score. It’s nothing too special about the whole thing. We just have to play harder and put points up.”
Johnson said it is a focus thing, but they are working on it. He said they’ve had good communication between the quarterbacks, receivers, all the offensive players and coaches about what they can do differently this week. He believes that means they are moving in the right direction to get this resolved and be on the same page.
