Pittsburgh Pirates

The Skenes/Jones duo is putting the spotlight on the Pirates

It's not often you see not one but two Pirates starting pitches on national television.

But, on Friday afternoon, Pirates' "Hundo Boys" Jared Jones and Paul Skenes joined The Pat McAfee Show to talk about this experience in the Majors so far.

Skenes talked about the no-hitter he was throwing in Chicago before he was pulled after 100 pitches.

He threw six innings during that outing.

While he was throwing a no-hitter, he tells McAfee he was fine with being pulled from the game.

"That's just where we're at right now . . . especially with the innings restrictions," said Skenes. "I mean 100 pitches is 100 pitches, that's just where the game's at right now, I wasn't really expecting to go any longer than that."

When asked if he trusts the Pirates plan, he says he does.

"They're a lot smarter than I am on that stuff," added Skenes.

The combination of Skenes and Jones is one of the most exciting things to happen to the Pirates and their fans in years and it could only get better from here.

Jones told McAfee he only started hitting 100 mph this year.

"I hadn't hit 100 until this year," said Jones.

While he's coming off his worst start so far, this past week against the Tigers, it's only one start for Jones. Nothing to get concerned about, at least at this point.

Both Jones and Skenes are only 22 and rookies.

It's already started but it looks like the "Hundo Boys" could soon be the reason he entire country is watching the Pittsburgh Pirates.
