Count Tony Romo among those who’s unimpressed with Matt Canada’s putrid play-calling.

The CBS analyst didn’t waste time Sunday when it came to questioning Canada during the Eagles’ dominant 35-13 win over the Steelers. Almost instantly, Romo wondered why the Steelers weren’t opening up their playbook.

After Sunday’s debacle, the Steelers remained on pace to average their fewest points per game in 52 years. They are now last in the league in scoring, putting up an average of just 15 points per contest. At one point late in the first half, they accumulated more penalties than first downs.

In 26 games with Canada, the Steelers have only put up 30 points once. Their offense hasn’t cracked 20 points yet this season.

Admittedly, Kenny Pickett struggled, going for 25-of-38 for 191 yards with no touchdowns and an interception. But as Romo pointed out, Canada called another lackluster game, severely limiting the rookie quarterback.

Towards the end of the game — when Jim Nantz and Romo finally gave up hope of a Steelers comeback — Romo surmised the Steelers could make changes to their offense over the bye week. He said you “never know what’s going to happen.”

It’s rare for NFL broadcasters to muse about coaching and/or personnel changes during telecasts, leading one to believe Romo may be speaking with some inside knowledge. For what it’s worth, the camera panned to Chase Claypool when Romo made those comments.

Don’t worry: Nantz and Romo didn’t excuse the Steelers’ sorry defensive effort, either. At one point, Nantz remarked it looks like the Steelers only play 10 players on that side of the ball.

Don’t give this coaching staff any ideas …
