PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers will get an Atlanta third-string quarterback in the season opener on Sunday at 1p at Acrisure Stadium. The Falcons ruling out Tua Tagovailoa with an oblique injury and will go with Cooper Rush.
The 33-year-old Rush is the only right-handed quarterback on the Falcons active roster and played 33 games (14 starts) with Mike McCarthy in Dallas. He is 9-7 in his NFL career as a starter completing 61.1% of his passes for 3,766 yards, 20 touchdowns, 14 interceptions.
“I played a lot with Coop,” said his former Dallas teammate and now Steelers running back Rico Dowdle. “Just respect, he’s going to take what the defense gives him. That’s one of his main things, the big things. This is great for a quarterback to take what the defense gives him. He can go out there and win games. I think he showed that in Dallas. Respect for a decent coming here.”
This will be Rush’s first ever game against the Steelers.
