PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Last week before a mandated four days off tailback Jaylen Warren felt like he would be able to play in the season opener. As the team returned for the start of game week, more good thoughts.
The Steelers second-leading rusher and big play maker at running back did individual drills and special teams on Monday. He said it was about managing the hamstring injury, but he 'felt great'.
Asked if he would play in Atlanta?
"Um-hum," Warren said with a quick nod of his head at his locker on the South Side.
Warren said the plan is to practice on Wednesday, the team's first full practice in preparing for Atlanta. Last season, the third-year undrafted running back ran for 784 yards with four touchdowns with 61 receptions fro 370 yards. Of his touches, 55 resulted in a first down. He had some big games last year, 13 for 75 yards and a TD against Seattle, 11 carries for 88 yards against the Titans, 15 for 101 yards, TD against Green Bay, 9 for 129 yards against the Browns, including a 74-yard touchdown run.
He's anxious to see his role in Arthur Smith's offense.
"I'm excited," Warren said. "We have a variety of packages. I can't wait to put it on film. You get a good feeling about it."
Warren said they've had energy since day one of voluntary workouts. He expects to be there for day one of the season Sunday at the Falcons.
