T.J. Watt says he received a $10,000 fine after jokingly said he had his cell phone on him to see if he broke the NFL’s single season sack record against Baltimore during the last game of the regular season.
Watt told Dan Patrick last month that he checked his phone at half time but revealed on the “Pardon My Take” this week that he was kidding, but the NFL didn’t care.
“The NFL took it as a real saying and fined me $10,000 dollars,” Watt said.
Watt says players are not allowed to be on their phone 90 minutes before the game and at half time, per NFL rules.
Watt also revealed that he has a severe allergic reaction to tree nuts and nearly died on a few occasions.
Watt says he had an allergic reaction after eating some lo mien that had pine nuts at a hotel before his brother J.J. was getting one of his Defensive Player of the Year awards.
“I was on the red carpet with just a red face,” said Watt.
Another time his father “jokingly” throw a pecan at his face as a joke during the Super Bowl and his face blew up.
He also had an incident where he had to be rushed to the emergency room by former Steelers linebacker James Harrison.
“My face looked like I just want five rounds with Mike Tyson,” said Watt.
Watt says doctors tell him he’s not allergic to all tree nuts like almonds but won’t take a chance.
