NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Abortion rights activists on Saturday blocked a group of anti-abortion protesters who march from Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral to Planned Parenthood monthly.

The confrontation came after a leaked Supreme Court draft ruling revealed the court is preparing to overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision that enshrined the right to abortion in the United States.

A few dozen counter protesters organized by NYC for Abortion Rights gathered on a a rainy, windy morning and successfully blocked Witness for Life, a group that pickets Manhattan abortion clinics.

The Witness for Life protesters prayed and sang hymns while standing on the Church steps facing outward toward the NYC for Abortion Rights group, who in turn chanted slogans in favor of abortion rights.

The NYPD increased patrols at Catholic Churches this weekend in anticipation of blowback from the Supreme Court leak.

A memo instructed officers to be extra vigilant during Sunday morning mass, but no protesters were present at St. Patrick’s on Sunday morning.
