The Orange County Transit Authority’s finance committee will consider Wednesday how much to charge drivers to use the new 405 Express Lanes.
The $2.2 billion project, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year, will include two new express lanes in each direction.
With multiple entry and exit points, the toll price will depend on the time of day and stretch of the road a driver is traveling on, the Orange County Register reports. The most expensive planned toll is $9.94 for commuters going northbound down the entire length of the express lane during Friday afternoon rush hour.
Carpoolers with three or more people in the vehicle can travel in the express lanes for free with a transponder, OCTA said.
Once the Finance and Administration Committee agrees on a toll policy, it will be up for approval by the full OCTA board on July 24.
