Drone footage captured up to a dozen young great white sharks swimming in the waters off Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades on Wednesday.
Los Angeles County lifeguards told ABC 7 Eyewitness News that reports of 10 or more sharks in one area is considered high, but have not reported any unusual shark activity this week.
"Santa Monica Bay is known as a white shark nursery hotspot," marine biologist Chris Lowe explained to ABC 7, adding that it is "not unusual at all" for shark "pups," as the young are called, to congregate off L.A.'s coast in late summer.
Lowe said there is no indication that the sharks pose a threat to beachgoers.
