Animal rescue groups are relieved that a channel for saving dogs in South Korea that were at-risk of being sold and served as food for people is up and operating.
When South passed a bill to phase out serving dog meat over the next three years, In Defense of Animals and Jindo Love Rescue stepped in to help.
Jindo Love Rescue is an organization that works to find forever homes for dogs that were rescued from the meat trade. Once a person is approved to adopt one of the organization’s dogs, a volunteer will fly out with the animal to help them meet their new family.
The dogs are flown to certain airports, according to the rescue. One of those airlines is Los Angeles International Airport.
KNX News’ Pete Demetriou spoke with Deadra Cooper, who adopted a 2-year-old Shibu Inu named Yoshi through the organization.
“You have to really believe in the rescue you're dealing with,” she said. “You have to be educated about the rescue and you haven't met these dogs that you're rescuing.”
