The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Friday for the 39th time in 40 days, decreasing a half-cent to $4.69, its lowest amount since Feb. 10.
The average price has dropped 48 cents over the past 40 days, including nine-tenths of a cent Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It decreased 35 consecutive days, was unchanged Monday then resumed dropping Tuesday.
The average price is 6 cents less than one week ago and 35.1 cents lower than one month ago, but 26.2 cents more than one year ago. It has dropped $1.804 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The Orange County average price dropped for the 11th consecutive day, decreasing 1 cent to $4.538, its lowest amount since Feb. 2. It has dropped 12.7 cents over the past 11 days, including nine-tenths of a cent Thursday.
The Orange County average price is 4.7 cents less than one week ago and 34.2 cents lower than one month ago, but 22.1 cents more than one year ago. It has decreased $1.921 since rising to a record $6.459 on Oct. 5, 2022.
"As an all-time record number of Southern California travelers fuel up for their year-end holiday trips, they are paying more than this time last year, but overall for the year they have been paying less for gasoline than they did in 2022," said Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.
The national average price rose nine-tenths of a cent to $3.129, the fourth consecutive increase following an 18-day streak of decreases totaling 18.2 cents. It is 4.2 cents more than one week ago and 2.8 cents higher than one year ago but 15.2 cents less than one month ago.
The national average price has decreased $1.887 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
