A story, seemingly plucked out of a page from Goldilocks, concluded in Lake Tahoe last week.

In this real-life version however, the bears, not the humans, were caught sleeping somewhere they shouldn't have been.

A group of unsuspecting Tahoe residents discovered a bear family emerging from hibernation under their home last Tuesday, according to a Facebook post by the Bear League, a Tahoe-based non-profit.

The organization found that the bears discovered an unsecured crawl space under the home last winter when they were looking for a space to hibernate until the spring and had been sleeping there ever since.

The residents had been hearing "odd rumbling" and "snoring-like noises," but ignored the sounds because the situation "didn't make sense" and their neighbors said they hadn't heard any noises.

The bear family woke up from hibernation on April 19 which finally prompted the residents to realize the unsettling situation.

They contacted the Bear League, which drew out the mother bear and her four cubs.

"We uninvited Mama Bear, not yet aware there were four more bears under the house. It was quite the scene to then watch the four yearling cubs emerge from the opening and join together on the other side of the fence to venture forth into 2022," the post read. "Wish them luck, everyone."

To avoid situations like this, the organization encouraged Tahoe residents to secure any open crawl space under their homes.
