In a recent interview, Brooke Shields recalled a moment in the late 90s when Donald Trump asked her out on a date, and he told her she was making a “huge mistake” for turning him down.

The story came up while Shields was speaking with The New York Times during an interview promoting her new cabaret act, “Fame is Weird.”

In the act, Shields opens with an anecdote about the former commander-in-chief and a phone call between them.

“I was making some movie in the late ’90s. My phone rang, and it was him,” Shields said.

According to the actress, Trump started the call by saying, “You and I should date. You’re America’s sweetheart, and I’m the world’s richest man. People will love it.”

Thrown off by the sudden offer, Shields said she chuckled a little before telling Trump no.

“Thank you. I’m very flattered, but I have a boyfriend, and I don’t think he would appreciate me stepping out on him,” she recalled telling him.

Trump, attempting to get the last word, allegedly told her, “Well, I think you’re making a big mistake.”

“I said, ‘Well, I’m going to have to take my chances,’” Shields said.

During an interview with Andy Cohen in 2017, the actress first shared the story, saying that it happened sometime after Trump’s 1999 divorce from Marla Maples.
