A fiery single-vehicle accident left three Indiana State University students dead on Sunday morning, according to a press release from the school.

"This is a terrible tragedy," ISU President Dr. Deborah J. Curtis said in the release.
The release said that police were working to identify the students. It also said that five people were in the vehicle, all believed to be students at the school, several of whom are football players.
The Vigo County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene at 1:34 a.m. on Sunday, according to a statement from Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse.
"The vehicle had left the roadway and struck a tree," Plasse said. "Upon deputies arrival, the vehicle, occupied by a driver and four passengers, was on fire."
The driver of the vehicle and two others were pronounced dead on the scene, and the other two were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment with serious injuries.
It is not known what caused the accident, and Plasse shared that an investigation is ongoing.
"As we are waiting on additional details from authorities investigating this accident, our hearts go out to the families and friends of the students involved," Curtis said.
