Anyone who works in or wishes to socialize at indoor bars, wineries, breweries, nightclubs, or lounges in Los Angeles County will have to show proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 under a rule that takes full effect Thursday night.
County officials have also recommended that those dining in indoor portions of restaurants also present proof of vaccination, but are not requiring it yet.
The mandate was phased in starting early last month, when workers and patrons of nightlife establishments were required to show proof of having received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
County officials say special regulations for nightlife establishments are due to such areas being higher-risk environments for viral transmission.
L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer also said that since bars and clubs already require patrons to show ID before entering, adding a vaccine check would not require additional effort or cost.
Starting Monday, the City of Los Angeles will initiate an even more rigorous vaccine verification rule, requiring proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 for entry to indoor restaurants, bars, gyms, malls, concert venues, and spas, among other establishments within city limits. The rule will not apply to grocery stores or pharmacies.
