Culver City police released surveillance footage today of a man suspected of attacking an Asian American woman.
The alleged assault took place on June 14, Monday, at 1 a.m. in the 13300 block of Washington Boulevard.
"The victim, who is of Asian American descent, was walking westbound on Washington Blvd, on her way to work, when she was approached by the suspect who asked her for a cigarette," according to the police department Instagram post.
When the woman told him she did not have any and began to walk away, the suspect approached from behind. He yelled a racial slur, and hit her on the side of the head.
According to the police, the suspect then fled westbound on Washington Boulevard.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and treated for her injuries.
The police described the man as white, about 35 years old, 5 feet, 9 inches and heavy-set with light hair.
The newly released video shows a man walking into a business, possibly a convenience or liquor store. He is wearing a green T-shirt with a white T-shirt showing underneath, dark colored shorts and dark shoes.
Authorities are asking anyone with information on the assault to call the Culver City Police Department Detective Bureau at 310-253-6300.
