CVS has announced plans to give women a break on menstrual products.

Effective Thursday, the nationwide chain will be cutting prices for all CVS Health brand menstrual pads, tampons, liners and cups by 25 percent, CVS officials say.

"Women deserve quality when it comes to the products they may need each month. We’ve reduced the price on CVS Health brand period products by 25% in core CVS Pharmacy locations," the company said in a statement.

CVS said it would also pay "the tax on period products on behalf of our customers where and when possible," while continuing to "to help eliminate the tax nationwide."

Earlier this month, the retailer began paying sales tax on menstrual products in 12 states -- a little more than half of those that tax period products for women.

The store has also "evaluated thousands of products" -- like razors and shaving cream -- to make sure women's and men's items are priced equally, officials say.

"We don't think women should pay more than men for the same thing," according to a statement from the company.

The changes are part of CVS' "HERe, Healthier Happens Together" initiative.
