LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Delta unveiled the details for its new Terminal 2/3 headhouse at Los Angeles International Airport Tuesday, with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti cutting the ceremonial ribbon.

The first phase of the new Delta Sky Way at LAX is part of a multi-year transformation and is set to open in mid-April.

"Customers departing LAX will enter through a new headhouse in Terminal 3—a state-of-the-art space that will, for the first time, consolidate locations for check in, security and baggage claim," the airline said in a February statement.

"Delta, LAX’s largest global and fastest-growing carrier, has long been committed to modernizing and upgrading the airport experience for customers at its west coast hub."

The upgraded building isn't the only exciting feature Delta is talking about.

Thanks to a partnership with TSA, Delta said its qualifying customers will be able to take advantage of new facial recognition technology — which will allow them to check bags, pass through security and board flights completely hands-free.

A new Delta Sky Club is also part of the upgrade that will be unveiled in April.

"This Club measures over 30,000 square feet and features premium design elements, including a bar that extends from inside to the year-round, outdoor Sky Deck where guests can enjoy panoramic views of downtown Los Angeles and the iconic Hollywood sign," Delta said.

"With a top selection of seasonally inspired menu items, spacious shower facilities and ample seating for all types of travelers, the Delta Sky Club at LAX is the ideal oasis for travelers to work, dine, play, relax or recharge."

The $2.3 billion project is set to be completed by 2023 and will upgrade both Terminals 2 and 3 into a 27-gate complex that has a secure connection to the Tom Bradley International Terminal.
