WEST HOLLYWOOD (KNX 1070) -- An iconic West Hollywood Jewish deli suddenly closed for good Wednesday night after 95 years.

Greenblatt’s Deli & Fine Wines on Sunset Boulevard has served up its famous fare to celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and James Dean and was a favorite hot spot for comics playing at The Laugh Factory next door.

“It’s actually tragic that we’re losing this,” said a woman in the crowd.

Last night, saddened regulars packed the place for a final meal. A woman cried inside the deli before choking out, “yeah, I’m really very upset.”

Alison Martino of Vintage Los Angeles was among the crowd who came to say goodbye to Greenblatt’s.

“It has a retro feel to it with the wood-panelling and the stained-glass upstairs. It’s just very 70s and nothing’s changed. I think that’s what we love about it,” she said.

“It’s like a timeless classic.”

The owner was in the parking lot turning people saying the deli was too full. He told KNX he didn’t want to talk about the deli’s closure but may comment Thursday.
