KALIHIWAI, Hawaii (KNX) – A California man died in Hawaii after officials found him face-down in a snorkeling mask.
On Monday around 12:40 p.m., emergency crews responded to Anini Beach following a report of an unresponsive person in the water, Hawaii News Now reported.
James Pirkle, Jr., 81, was found 100 feet from the shore with his face down in the water and his snorkel mask still on, according to KITV 4.
Kauai Police said he was pronounced dead on the scene.
It’s unclear if Pirkle was snorkeling alone at the time of his death.
