Los Angeles County is finally in the state's orange tier – see what's changed

As of today, Los Angeles County is in the state's orange tier.

What exactly does the new tier mean? Here's a list:


Move theaters, restaurants, churches, museums, zoos and aquariums can all move from 25% to 50% capacity.

Gyms can move from 10% to 25% capacity.

Card rooms and family entertainment centers can resume indoor operations with a 25% capacity.

Bars that don't serve food, which can reopen for outdoor dining only, can now operate from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., but must maintain an 8-foot distance between tables.

LA County is imposing a 75% limit capacity in grocery stores and other retail businesses, and is recommending a 50% capacity until April 15.

"It's certainly good news that we are making progress reducing transmission across the county," says Barbara Ferrer, who is LA County's public health director. "However, we continue to remain concerned about the potential risk that can thwart our progress."

Virus "variants of concern" that are believed to more contagious and accounted for close to half of the LA County samples tested in the week ended March 16.
