Family of O.C. man found dead in Colombia believe he was robbed while on date

ANAHEIM, Calif. (KNX) – The family of an Orange County man who died in Colombia believe he was killed during a robbery while on a date.

Amy Nguyen told KABC-7 her brother Paul, 27, was traveling in Medellin  when he went a date with a girl he met on Tinder and was last seen leaving a bar with that girl around 2 a.m. Thursday.

His body found was hours later.

Amy said that while there have been no arrests made, police in Colombia believe her brother have may have been robbed.

"They took all of his stuff and his belongings. We know all his cards were swiped after 4 a.m.," Amy told the outlet. "We believe there were multiple people involved and she was just there to lure him and set him up."

In a thread on Reddit, Amy said her brother’s credit card and accounts were “compromised.”

“His card was used at a pharmacy, however according to the cashier the guy was not Asian,” she said.

Amy said she and her family are working to bring her brother back to the United States for his funeral service.

“Paul deserves to be back home, surrounded by love, family, and friends,” Amy wrote on the GoFundMe page for Paul.

As of 12 p.m. Tuesday, the GoFundMe exceeded its goal of $15,000 with a whopping $32,760.
