Officials are investigating after three explosive hand grenades washed up on a beach in Oregon last week.
Newport Police say the grenades were discovered in an area between Yaquina Bay State Park and Agate beach.
Three separate devices appeared to have washed ashore, police said. Officials aren't sure where the explosives came from.
The Oregon State Police Bomb Squad responded and seized the devices.
The objects aren't your typical green hand grenades. They're white canisters labeled as "M116A simulator hand grenades," and marked "Warning: Explosive" in large red letters.
The devices are designed for training exercises to acclimatize troops to the sights and sounds of battle in a non-lethal format, according to police.
"This device, once the pull-wire is activated, after 6 – 12 seconds produces a loud report or simulated explosion of a grenade," Newport Police wrote on Facebook.
Police are warning residents who may find additional grenades along the beach to leave them alone.
"If you encounter such a device, please do not handle or attempt to move it. Call the police to report the device's location," police said.
