March For Our Lives, an organization that advocates against gun violence, held marches across the country Saturday in the wake of multiple mass shootings over recent weeks in the U.S.
According to the organization, which was created after the 2018 school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., “after countless mass shootings and instances of gun violence in our communities, it’s time to take back to the streets and march for our lives.”
Recent mass shootings include the murder of 19 children and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas, as well as shootings in Philadelphia, Pa., Tulsa, Okla., and Buffalo, N.Y.
“Don’t accept empty words from ‘leaders’ as we watch more kids die,” said March For Our Lives in a tweet.
Members of the U.S. House of Representatives voted in favor of a bill covering new gun regulations this week, and the Senate is soon expected to vote on the bill. Republicans and Democrats in the Senate have also been working towards bipartisan gun laws, although the parties have very different positions on gun legislation.
“This is not a political issue, this is a moral issue,” said David Hogg, a school shooting survivor and gun legislation activist, during a speech at the Washington D.C. march.
