Ojai Valley News said the actor, who played Warren "Potsie" Weber on the show, made the announcement during a city council meeting on June 28, saying that Ojai needs “leadership that inspires a collaborative team.”

The 72-year-old would be running against current mayor, Betsy Stix, who is running for reelection, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Williams has already garnered support from his “Happy Days” co-star, Henry Winkler, who tweeted, “You have my vote.”

Candidates can formally declare their candidacy on July 18.
