LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Former Matchbox 20 frontman-turned-solo singing star Rob Thomas once proclaimed, “It’s a hot one!” over a slinky, late-90s, Latin-rock banger that dominated the airwaves just before the dawn of the new millennium.

Well, it’s once again time to search “Santana” on Audacy and crank up those summertime vibes because, while the actual season doesn’t begin for another month, Mother Nature is already bringing the heat all across the country.

Several states scattered across the nation have already experienced record heat over the last two weeks for this time of year, with some places registering temperatures up to 25 degrees above the normal average.

The National Weather Service reported that three Texas cities – Amarillo, Dallas, and San Antonio – set new high-temperature marks on Tuesday, as did Roswell, N.M.

Meteorologists project that combined, cities could set 100 new heat records across the country by the weekend.
