Beginning July 1, hotels and Airbnbs across California are going to appear more expensive.

A new California law that removes hidden fees will require hotels and Airbnbs to list the total cost people will pay. The law is intended to eliminate resort fees, services fees, cleaning fees, and host fees that inflate the total cost above the rate initially advertised.

A room or vacation rental price may increase by $20 to $50 per night. People will also have 24 hours to cancel most bookings without a charge, as long as the reservation was made in advance.

For Airbnbs, customers will automatically see the “total before taxes” price, according to the Los Angeles Times. This means that service and cleaning fees will automatically be incorporated into the price California consumers see while searching for a vacation rental on the website.
