MALIBU, Calif. (KNX) - A famous Malibu home designed by architect Harry Gesner is up for sale for a cool $49.5 million.
Built in 1957, the beachfront Wave House is often considered Gesner’s most famous work. The mid-century modern structure is designed to look like a cresting wave, with a curved copper roof extending toward the water.
“I designed it while sitting on a surfboard out by some rocks near the shore. I drew it on the board with a grease pencil,” Gesner told Curbed.
This is the first time the 6,208-square-foot house has been on the market in 36 years, the Los Angeles Times reports. Its most recent owner, Warner Bros. Records executive Mo Ostin, died last year. The abode was previously home to singer-songwriter Rod Stewart.
Next door to the Wave House is Gesner’s former family home, Sandcastle, which is also currently up for sale for $27.5 million.
A self-taught architect, Gesner designed more than a dozen of the most distinctive residences in the L.A. area, including the Cole House on the Sunset Strip and the Hollywood Hills Boathouses. Gesner died in 2022 at the age of 97.
