A new free shuttle service between north and south Irvine was launched Monday.
Although Orange County Transportation Authority buses run along the main roads in Irvine, residents weren’t able to use them to go shopping, go to school, or other places because there weren’t stops within the neighborhoods. KNX News’ Margaret Carrero spoke to Irvine Mayor Farrah Khan about Irvine Connect, the new shuttle service.
“So we did a study and from that study, we figured out a route that would be probably the most used in the city for right now,” she said.
Khan said there are 77 stops within the loop, which runs from the northern end of the city to Irvine Station.

“It's connecting both Hoag and Kaiser hospitals, two of our high schools, our shopping centers and I'm really hoping that people will utilize this service,” she said.
Shuttles will run every 20 minutes. It’s available from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. The shuttle isn’t available on holidays including New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
