Carlson, whose interview with Putin received millions of views, has spoken out about the Russian president since their sit down, describing him and the country as better than the media portrays them.
However, Stewart wasn’t having it, slamming Carlson for not pushing back on Putin’s propaganda during the interview while at the same time claiming he was carrying out his journalistic duty.
The former Fox News host posted several videos while in Russia, including one Stewart mentioned, which showed him walking through and praising the Russian subway systems and grocery stores.
“I know I’ve said this before, but you’re such a d—,” Stewart said.
“You aren’t as dumb as your face would have us believe,” Stewart said of Carlson. “Perhaps, if your handlers had allowed, you would have seen there is a hidden fee to all your cheap groceries and orderly streets.”
Stewart also touched on the death of Alexei Navalny, Putin’s main opponent in the upcoming election and the leader of the Russian opposition.
Stewart called Nacalny’s death in prison “the literal price of freedom.”
As for Carlson, Stewart suggested a couple of reasons for the interview, saying it’s a tale as old as time.
“The question is, ‘Why is Tucker doing this?’” Stewart asked. “It’s because the old civilizational battle was capitalism versus communism … but now they think the battle is woke vs. unwoke. And in that fight, Putin is an ally to the right. He’s their friend. Unfortunately, he’s also a brutal and ruthless dictator. So they have to make Americans a little more comfortable with that.”
