Our KNX Hero of the Week, Lucinda Lambros, is helping women feel strong and confident!

With the help of a close friend, Lucinda started Handbags for Hearts, a donation program for women going through a tough time. Every February, Lucinda and her volunteer team collect new and slightly used handbags, and they fill each one with skin, hair, and hygiene products and other donated items like notebooks and pens.
“Anything that you can imagine, soap, body wash, and razors, saving them money for a month or two months of personal care items, you know, it helps them in so many different ways,” she told Heroes host Heather Jordan.

Each bag also gets a handwritten note for encouragement, and are then given to organizations that help women get back on their feet.
Lucinda says Handbags for Hearts has grown tremendously since starting with about 40 bags in 2019.
“This year in February was our eighth year, and we did over 340 handbags, and now they go to three different nonprofit organizations that all help women of different ages and different situations,” she said. “I can't begin to tell you how many women it takes to put together this type of donation drive, because you think 340 handbags is what we did this past year. Well, inside of each of those handbags is either a smaller purse or a wallet. So imagine 700 women donating just one purse. I mean, it's incredible when you start to think about the community around us and how women really want to help other women that may not be as fortunate as they are in life.”
